Double-Agents and Networking

Recruiters. I have a rather negative view on (job) recruiters, but that's for another day. (Like, not Friday.) Have you (or someone you know) ever gotten a job through a recruiter?

Social networking sites have been the rage over the past two years, but social networking has been around for as long as societies have been. We all know (or have heard of) people getting jobs because they "knew someone". Have you ever gotten a job from a personal network?

Yes to both on my part..

Hate dealing with recruiters. They seem to be on your side in the beginning but once you have had a successful interview, they turn around. Ultimately, who pays them? It's not you as a potential employee...

Personal network always works in my case.. I have had an easier time in two of the jobs I held becuase I knew people in key positions.. (i.e. corporate recruiter).

Never through social networks. Only through direct application or recruiters. Incidentally, recruiters are paid 20% of your salary so they have an incentive to ask for as much as possible.
